YAMBA ATHLETES GEARING UP FOR OCEAN SWIM

More than 300 swimmers, young and old, will be out in force tomorrow, taking part in the Yamba Ocean Swim.

Competitors aged from 10 to over 70 will compete in a 700 metre swim, two kilometre swim, and a 150 metre Dash for Cash.

Yamba Surf Club Surf Sports Director Jim Doherty says even some well-known champions will make an appearance, competing for big prizes in the open division:

“Dane Pharrell, from Illura Surf Club, who’s in the Kellogs Nutri Grain Ironman series, he’s entered, so he’ll be one to watch. Also, Ridge Grimsey from Brisbane, who’s a specialist long-distance swimmer on the Australian swimming circuit.”

“Prize money for the open two kilometre’s 300 dollars,” Mr Doherty says.

The first race takes off from Convent Beach at 10am.
