  1. What a fantastic idea, yes it may come as an unconvineance to some. However the end result would be fantastic. Plus we have a lot of other beautiful places around Newcastle to go for a swim. I say do it.

  2. While Merewether baths gets a $4million overhaul, residents of Stockton, who raised money to build, and then later heat their pool, have been priced out of this council amenity. At $4.80 per person entry fee, there is no casual stop-off at the pool on the way home from school like there once was. Now council has slashed the operating hours, closing the doors at 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. We could go to the beach instead, but they took our paid professional lifeguards off beaches on weekends. We live in a community surrounded by water, and our children have no safe, accessible, patrolled place to learn and build their swimming skills. I can see that Merewether Baths need work, but it honestly feels that it is at Stockton’s expense.

  3. I can’t imagine any revamp that would take a year to do. I would say yes to a revamp that 1. doesn’t change the character of the baths and 2. that is done in a timeframe of no more than 4 months.
