Several Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire and rescue crews were battling a bushfire off Date Avenue at Weston in the Hunter Valley on Thursday afternoon.
The fire which has burnt several hectares was moving closer to homes after jumping a rail line.
Weather conditions are extremely dry with gusty North Westerly winds.
The fire may have been an act of arson. Police are investigating.
