RETAILER GIANT ANGERS CAGED EGG INDUSTRY

  1. Being employed in a supermarket I can tell this producer that the price the customer pays for eggs is irrelevant. Supermarkets (both majors) are in the business of getting the consumer to part with as much of their hard earned cash as possible and they know that if they remove the cheapest option that the consumer has no alternative but to pay a higher price. I feel for the egg producers that have upgraded their facilities in line with demands by animal welfare agencies only to be slapped in the face. The RSPCA should be ashamed of selling their souls to the devil as the chicken that bears their name is not “free range” which I would have thought was the optimal for animal welfare. Consumers and producers are now at the mercy of the big two supermarkets and should now start spending their money in the smaller mums and dads butchers, fruit shops and bakeries etc.
