CHANGES TO REGIONAL MAIL SORTING CENTRES ON HOLD

Australia Post has halted planned changes to regional mail sorting centres, as it continues talks with the communications union.
The union says it’s concerned the proposed restructure could cost jobs and result in delivery delays to non-metropolitan areas.
The New England mail facility in Tamworth is one of seven centres expected to be affected, with about 60 full-time jobs on the line.
CEPU New South Wales secretary Jim Metcher says Australia Post has agreed that job losses as a result of mail sorting changes will not involve the forced retrenchment of any employees.
Alterations to mailing sorting work, which could delay delivery service, have also been placed on hold.
