WIND AND HIGH TEMPS CONTRIBUTE TO A NUMBER OF BUSHFIRES IN THE REGION

Wind gusts of up to 100km/ph and temperatures into the mid 30s contributed to a number of bushfires throughout the region today.

Emergency services continue to battle two out-of-control bushfires, including one threatening 10 properties at Coomba Park, south of Forster.

The Pacific Highway south of Taree has only just reopened, with the main fire front in the area of Purflett.

NSW Fire and Rescue crews have extinguished a small bush and grass fire at Warabrook earlier this afternoon.

Meanwhile multiple NSW Fire and Rescue crews were on the scene of a coastal bushfire at Glenrock Lagoon south of Newcastle.

Earlier in the day, seven fire units and 24 firefighters brought what’s thought to be a deliberately lit fire at Moonbi, north of Tamworth.

And, almost 7000 homes were left without power in the Hunter today when high winds ripped through power lines across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens.
