COUNCIL CONSIDERS PAID PARKING IN CHARLESTOWN

Lake Macquarie Council will tonight vote on a recommendation to conduct community consultation on a proposal to introduce paid parking at two council owned sites in Charlestown.

It follows a report on the feasibility of paid parking in the Tallara Street(behind the Mattara Hotel), and Smith Street (next to the library) off-street car parks at Charlestown.

The recommendation also suggests council explore the option of a local area parking scheme, such as metered spaces, to protect residential streets from parking “overspill” due to people avoiding the parking lots.
