The Drink Safe Precinct in Surfers Paradise has been saved for another 9 months.
The attorney General has extended the project until mid next year, to determine if it’s a success or a waste of money.
“We want to make sure we didn’t cut and run from this project because the evaluation may turn out that the programs a great success ”
“In the time its been in operation there’s been a 25 percent reduction in the number of assault complaints, public order offences have been down 25 percent and there’s also been a reduction of 40 percent in the number of police officers that have been assaulted ”
The Attorney General will wait for the full two year report before deciding whether the precinct will become a permanent fixture.
