MY FAVOURITE ITALIAN UNDERPAID WORKERS

A Central Coast restaurant is facing up to $40,000 in fines after failing to back-pay nine underpaid employees.

The Fair Work Ombudsman says staff of My Favourite Italian, including two junior workers, were allegedly underpaid more than $12,000 in minimum wages between July 2011 and June 2012.

The owner failed to rectify the payments within 14 days, when ordered to earlier this year.

  1. My son was one of those people that received no pay for all the work done. Working late into the night for not a cent in pay. When l met with the owner, l was yelled at and the door slammed in my face.

I have heard that suppliers are too out of pocket, with bills not paid.

And yet My Favourite Italian continues to trade, still open and collecting money from those that pay to eat there.

One wondereds how many more young people have worked there and not received wages, yet are too afraid to come forward.

If l was not to pay for a meal there, the police would be called, yet they do not pay wages for work provided, and nothing happens.

Why has it taken so long for action to be taken, my son has waited over a year.
