Courtney Atkinson’s switch to longer distance races is bearing fruit.
He took out the 70.3 half ironman race in Cairns over the weekend.
The former Olympic Triathlete signalled his arrival as a genuine contender in distance triathlons, dominating the 1.9 kilometre swim, 90 Kilometre Bike, and 21.1 kilometre run legs but he felt every metre of it.
“You kind of think the wind on the bike is the tough bit, but it’s actually running, Coz it’s one way all the way into town…un Tough Tough day.”
Fellow Gold Coaster Brad Kahlfeldt came second, and completing a Gold Coast Treble, Luke McKenzie won the full Length Ironman.
