ACA SAYS TRUTH COMES OUT ABOUT WALLARAH TWO COAL PROJECT

The Australian Coal Alliance says the potential catastrophic impacts of the Wallarah Two coal project have been exposed – following the release of a new environmental impact statement.

Member Alan Hayes says the report admits people could die if the mine goes ahead – something those behind the project strongly deny.

  1. BHP one of the largest mining companies in the world walked away from this project many years ago after their research showed the devastating effects mining would have on the water catchment area. Does Wallarah 2 expect us to believe anything has changed????????

  2. Alan reads from the EIS that 245 houses will be impacted by subsidence. Wallarah 2 then refute only 9 of those will be by “VERTICAL” subsidence. Well by my calculations that still leaves 236 house to be impacted by horizontal subsidence. Nice spin wallarah 2!

  3. Winds blowing on coal piles will certainly push coal dust and silica over the F3 and residential areas of Blue Heaven… Not something I would like to breathe everyday.

  4. scaremongering and comments from uninformed individuals who don’t know the difference between coal and silicious mineral materials let alone subsidence impacts.

  5. If the information released by KORES says that people will or could die, then imagine how many will be sick but not die. With a school down the road, will your kid get sick ?

Who in the Company will be personally liable for the deaths and sickness ?

Who in Government will be personally liable for the deaths and sickness ?

Someone has to make the decision. Is it O’Farrell, Hartcher or someone else ?

  6. So I suppose all the other underground coal mines in our area must be killing people in our community to, you ignoramus. I live near 3 of them and have raised a family without impact. As did my parents and grandparents. What your saying in not only ignorant, it plain stupid.

  7. I moved to the Central Coast from Sydney for a lovely fresh country lifestyle. The Government know the facts on this form of coal mining if they let it go ahead it can only be seen as premeditated murder . No amount of money or Natural resources are worth risking peoples health or lives . Australian Government would you allow this form of Coal Mining permission to go ahead if these were your home you were living in ????????.

  8. In response to the previous comments:
Paul, BHP did not walk away from the project based on water concerns, they had a change of business direction, that resulted in them expanding their south coast mines.
    Terry, well put.
Robyn, do you know where the existing coal mines are in your local area? Do you think that Mandalong, Morisset, Cooranbong, Fassifern, Barnsley, Wyee, Mannering park, Awaba and Rathmines don’t have a healthy country lifestyle? Do you think that if there was air pollution it would stop at the local government boundary, come on, would you rather live in Sydney with a condensed atmosphere of engine exhaust and brake dust. The local area is safe , and will be just the same with a coal mine next to the Buttonderry tip. Spare a thought for the 500 plus workers who travel excessive times up the valley to work in the mines, who would benefit from local employment, think of their sons and daughters who will benefit from direct and indirect employment in the local area. Mining supports the local and state economy, and can be done with due regard to the residents and the environment.

  9. Lets hope Barry lives up to his election promise, Coal mines so close to large towns that rely on catchment areas is not a good idea. Threatening our catchment, even if risk is small is not worth it, especially when the bulk of the profit and benifits of the mine are foreign.

  10. The Central Coast have only recently secured their water supply, mostly by the provision of the Mardi to Mangrove water pipeline.
It is devastating to think that our water catchments may now be at risk with the possibility once again, of this coal mine going ahead. Even if Wallarah 2 are made ‘Accountable’ for any detrimental impact to our water supply, so what!? It is very hard to unscramble an egg.
