YAMBA SURFBOAT CREWMAN OK AFTER MISHAP

Yamba surf life saver Andrew Cumberland is recovering well, after injuring his back yesterday while competing at the Australian Masters Championships on the Gold Coast.

The surf boat rower was helped back to North Kirra Beach after he and his team mates were hit by a big wave.

Event spokesman Ian Hansen said, “The crew came a cropper out in the ocean and he was rescued by our safety IRB crews.”

Andrew suffered a minor spinal injury and has since been released from Tweed Heads Hospital.
