ALSTONVILLE FIGHTS TO SAVE ITS PRESCHOOL

This time next year, Alstonville will be without a community preschool, unless more than $1 million can be raised to build a new facility.

The Preschool Committee has secured a site, but says it needs State Government help to get the ball rolling.

  1. Unfortunately while the Alstonville community are encouraged to apply for the capital funding applications for the program will not open until July. Any funding would also need to be supplemented by the community and it has been clearly indicated that the funding is for extension of existing provisions rather than new builds. Therefore even if an application is made it is unlikely to meet the eligibility criteria and will most definitely not meet the timeframe for closure – leaving 75 families without a preschool provision. The State Government have been aware of the situation facing Alstonville families for 2 years. The encouragement to apply for a grant that will not meet the communities pressing need is not a solution just more political rhetoric.
