CUDGEN MEMORIAL TREES CLOSER TO CHOPPING BLOCK

Four 50-year-old Slash Pines at Cudgen are closer to the chopping block with Tweed council officers agreeing to their removal.

The trees were planted in the 1960s by a Dutch resident in honour of comrades killed in World War Two.

But as he’s passed away, the Cudgen Progress Association wants them replaced with Norfolk Pines, in memory of Australian diggers.

It wants them removed by Anzac Day – councillors will vote next week.
