LATEST ON PLANS FOR CYCLEWAY FROM NEWCASTLE TO KURRI

Cessnock Council has withdrawn its bid for federal funding for a cycleway from Newcastle to Kurri Kurri.

The route would follow the 28-kilometre Richmond Vale rail line, which runs between Hexham and Pelaw Main.

Council voted last night to support a feasibility study for the project, but says it’s not ready for funding just yet, with private landholders along the route yet to come onboard.

The cycleway is designed to compliment the Fernleigh Track, which connects Adamstown to Belmont.
