MAYOR PUTS GALLERY PLANS ON BACKBURNER

The latest debate plaguing Laman Street has taken a new turn, with Jeff McCloy today walking away from the art gallery redevelopment.

The Lord Mayor says it would be irresponsible to push ahead with the plans given council’s dire financial situation.

  1. The Lord Mayor has demonstrated clearly by his actions that he us not a suitable person to hold the position of Mayor.
    To not even give the courtesy of hearing the amended plans for the art gallery and storm out of the meeting is rude and boorish.
    A project that has DA approval, $7million from the Commonwealth, $1million from private donors and $6million from the IPART levy, a revamped plan and shovel ready is a demonstration of our Mayor being out of his depth.
    He has been in this position for a very short time and is trying to wreck a program that has been 10 years in the planning because it’s not his plan.
    A very rude display from councilor McCloy.

  2. So he’s just lost Newcastle City Council millions of dollars: money already in the kitty lost. He and his colleagues doing to Newcastle what he’s done to the Lucky Country hotel. Great choice for Lord Mayor, voters.

  3. I thought Jeff McCloy’s election bleat was all about getting the backlog of DAs approved. That’s the most important thing in his world isn’t it.
