RECORDS BROKEN AT ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Records were smashed at the Regional Athletics Championships in Taree over the weekend, despite rain leaving the track heavy.

Nambucca’s Jayde Hill took an impressive 37 seconds off the under 17s 1500 metre walking event, while Joshua Hughes from Kempsey braved the wind to take out the under 12 javelin.

He smashed the record and took three metres off his personal best – throwing more than 30 metres.

Competition wrapped up with the relay events, with Tamworth claiming three of the four titles.

Athletes who placed in the top two in each event will compete at the State Championships in Sydney next month.
