Mid north coast surfers made their mark on the competition at day three of the Breaka Burleigh Pro today, with Port Macquarie’s Darren O’Rafferty and Sawtell’s Billy Kean both taking out their round two heats.
After a two year break, Kean’s return to professional surfing is looking to be worthwhile- he won his heat with a score of 14, narrowly beating Japan’s Kaito Ohashi.
“I’ve just been just enjoying myself just surfing since the junior series but it’s good to have a crack, I don’t have a major sponsor so I don’t do that many events anymore, just try to travel around.”
While world tour veteran O’Rafferty scored a 13.9 ahead of fellow Aussies Nathan Webster and Dane Hamilton.
