  1. Dog Rescue Newcastle do fantastic work, saving so many lives. You can see all their dogs (and cats) available for adoption on their website and Facebook page. You can also find instructions for helping by fostering, volunteering or donating.

Thanks NBN for supporting Dog Rescue Newcastle.

  2. I adopted my dog Alfie from Dog Rescue Newcastle. They are a wonderful, dedicated and selfless group of people who save so many innocent lives each year.

  3. Its amazing to realise what a small rescue group like DRN can achieve through the dedication of volunteers and superb management style. These small groups survive on a shoestring budget, more often than not carrying huge veterinary expenses – and all in the name of love of animals.

  4. It’s great to see NBN running this story so everyone in the Newcastle area can hear about the wonderful job being done by DRN. These people are all volunteers with one thing in common – their love of animals. So many more animals can be saved by simply letting the public know what’s happening and how they can help. Thanks again, NBN!!!

  5. My husband and I fostered our first dog from Dog Rescue Newcastle in October and soon decided that we had found the newest addition to our family and adopted her, Gracie was used for breeding purposes and given up when she got to old for breeding. Had her previous owners surrendered her to the RSPCA she might not have found the loving home that she has. We agreed to foster another dog who is currently looking to find his forever family. DRN are a lovely friendly group of people who are solely here to help Dogs and Cats find loving homes. It sickens me to think that all the years I’ve donated to the RSPCA and they show huge profits annually and yet they have large numbers of animals euthanised each year without much effort to save those innocent animals who need them the most.

  6. Well done NBN for giving air time to a great organisation!

It’s completely true that the RSPCA Rutherford shelter refuses to allow Dog Rescue Newcastle and other rescue organisations in to take dogs. If the RSPCA actually cared about the animals, they would welcome help from rescue organisations.

Instead, the small group of dedicated volunteers at Dog Rescue Newcastle rescue dogs from Muswellbrook, Singleton, Port Stephens, Wyong and Taree pounds, who are all willing to work with rescue. I think the ratepayers of Newcastle would be disgusted to learn that their rates are paying for lost dogs to be routinely euthanased rather than rehomed.

  7. What a wonderful story about a marvellous group of people. We adopted a Husky through this organisation and loved him from the moment we saw him. After a few months of unconditional love from our new family member we decided to offer help with transport during which time we met some beautiful dogs ,amazed at how many of these animals had been surrendered or ended up in the pound. We then decided that we had room to foster another dog so our lovely boy had company and we could help save the life of many more deserving boys and girls.During that time we met a gorgeous mastiff cross girl that we have fallen in love with over and over .It is one of the most rewarding experiances i have ever had and i urge anyone that has thought about helping a rescue organisation to just do it…what do you have to lose…..only your heart. Dog Rescue Newcastle do a fantastic job with very limited resources. Imagine what could be accomplished if the bigger organisation of the RSPCA joined with the smaller groups. All i can say is thank god DRN saved my two gorgeous dogs from a crueler fate….nothing says i love you more than a tail wag, lots of slobbery kisses and cuddles and i have that everyday because someone took the time to save and rehome them Thank you Dog Rescue Newcastle .

  8. Thank you NBN for putting such a worthwhile feature on your programme. I found it really interesting to find out about such dedicated people who work with animals in the community. I had no idea that these rescue organisations existed; has my head been in the clouds. I have two dogs from the pound as I want to do the right thing for the canine world, but I must admit I was disgusted to hear about the euthanasia rate. I would love to know if this segment assists with the rescue groups cause, I certainly hope it does.
Once again, well done NBN, good feature.

  9. I have also adopted dogs from the pound wanting to do the right thing and for 4 years we have, in one way or another, financially given our support. I no will no longer give them my time or money; Dog Rescue Newcastle sounds a much more worthwhile beneficiary. The program makes me feel like I have thrown my money down the drain. Thanks NBN for bringing this to my attention.

  10. we need the RSPCA to come clean on why they dont want rescue groups to rescue dogs from Rutherford

  11. Thank you NBN for this wonderful story. Wondering why rescue cannot get dogs released from Rutherford when they could from the closed Kurri Kurri Pound. Its a real eye opener to the community about what RSPCA don’t do. Dog Rescue Newcastle have my support and have spoken to others who did not even know until your screening that Newcastle have dog rescues. Thanks for airing this it and am sure it will generate more foster carers for Dog Rescue Newcastle.
