Engineering firm Downer EDI has been awarded a $90-million contract to design and construct two new rail passing loops between Gosford and Narara.
The Transport New South Wales project is part of the Northern Sydney freight corridor program, and is expected to be completed by mid-2015.
The works follow the troubled Waratah train project that saw the company record more than $400-million in losses.
