Eight people crammed into a ute have been hospitalised after a single vehicle crash in Lake Macquarie early this morning.
Five people were travelling in the tray with another three in the cabin when the ute, driven by a 20-year-old, crashed into a gully at Awaba.
It is believed six people were thrown from the car, with all eight transported to hospital by air and road.
Injuries range from cuts to serious facial injuries, with one patient being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
The occupants were aged between 14 – 32 years of age and police are investigating if alcohol was a factor.
