WEATHER UPDATE: NEW OCTOBER RECORDS FOR NORTH WEST AND NEW ENGLAND

New records were set during October. Gunnedah’s 3.4mm total made it the driest October on record beating the 1957 total of 3.8mm.

Nowendoc’s 16mm made it the driest October since 1988.

On the temperature front, Tenterfield now has a new lowest October minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees, beating the old record set in 1944.

Barraba was lower still, at 5.4 degrees, beating its previous coolest morning of 5.9 degrees, set in 1968.

Cool today, hot tomorrow. The winds will shift back to the north on Wednesday the 21st with gusty seabreezes developing along the coast. A new swell is pulsing northward from the offshore low.

On Thursday another southerly will move in cooling things back down while producing a burst of patchy showers east of the Divide with more weekend storms likely across the Northern Ranges.
