The Uniting Care Christmas Appeal, Operation Santa,
began at Tamworth Target today.
In its 17th year, the campaign encourages people to get into the festive spirit and donate gifts to disadvantaged people of all ages.
Mayor Col Murray, Federal Member for the New England Tony Windsor and Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson were on hand to place the first gifts under the tree.
Last year they collected more than 81,000 gifts and almost $150,000 worth of gift cards nationwide.
