  1. Thank you so much for reporting on The Sunflower Day Ceremony in Newcastle yesterday. As was said suicide is not talked about as the subject is taboo….2300 people to die in one year is beyond belief…..yes it is double the road toll but sadly those of us left behind (survivors) are still quite often shunned in the community. Thank you once again for a great report.

  2. Thank you for your report on Wesley Mission’s Sunflower Day Ceremony. I was there in memory of my brother, Chad. It was a beautiful day, very moving. You are right, Suicide is rarely talked about, I believe talking is the best thing to do…not talking is not helping. Not talking is adding to the stigma. We need to talk, we need to let people know it is ok not to feel ok, it is ok to admit you need help and it is ok to ask for help. Thank you for your report.

  3. The report on The Sunflower Day ceremony was great to see. With a close family member with depression I believe talking is the key to getting help. Let’s not ignore these people. Let’s open our arms and hearts , allow them to talk and let them know that there is always someone who will listen.

  4. Thank you for covering the service today and talking about suicide. Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter has a suicide prevention service offering support to those with thoughts of suicide and those bereaved and we encourage everyone to seek help – check the website http://www.lifelinehunter.org.au for more information. 5. Congratulations NBN on talking about suicide. Each time the media does this, a brick in that HUGE wall that is the stigma of suicide is knocked out. Those of us who have been bereaved by suicide will continue to fight to take this stigma away and we need your continuing help. Thank you.
