TOUGH START TO REP CRICKET SEASON FOR NEWCASTLE

A depleted Newcastle side has made a tough start to the representative cricket season, losing its opening one dayer to the ACT.
The home side batted first and were bundled out for 111.
Needing quick wickets, 16 year old Jake Montgomery made his rep debut one to remember, snaring the scalp of Aaron Ayre.
Josh Bennett did damage from the other end, knocking over Michael Spaseski.
But former Toronto batsmen Matt Gawthrop came back to haunt the Novocastrians, his 67 not out saw the ACT cruise to victory.
