MAYORAL CANDIDATE’S CAR STOLEN AND BURNT

Jeff Johnson’s campaign car was stolen from Alstonville on Wednesday night and discovered the next morning burnt out in Pottsville.

The vehicle has been a regular visitor to the Ballina area , and the Greens mayoral candidate believes it wasn’t a random attack.

“Given that at the time it was stolen it was covered in election material and the timing of the attack it does appear to have been politically motivated.”

This isn’t the first time Mr Johnson has been a victim of political outrage…during the three week campiagn his posters have also been targeted.

He says dealing with the incidents hasn’t been easy.

“When the police knock on your door at two thirty in the morning it’s quite a shock and you often think the worst, so it’s quite a traumatic experience when that happens. Atleast it was just a car and nobody else got hurt.”

Police are still investigating the matter and urge anyone with information to call crime stoppers.
