RFS warn locals of a dangerous fire season approaching

More than a dozen grass and bushfires blazed across New South Wales today, and the Rural Fire Service is urging north coasters to be careful.

It’s predicting the worst spring and summers seasons we’ve ever seen.

The rural fire service want locals to be prepared for the coming bushfire season.

It says working with local firies is the key to keeping safe.

“We’re encouraging locals to talk to us, they need to talk to us and advise when they’re lighting fires. That’s done for a few reasons, mainly so that we know what’s happening out there plus we can provide assistance where needed.”

There have already been problems with that this month and as the weather heats up it’s feared the issue will only worsen.

The new Rural Fire Service Hub in Casino hopes to be a big help to the region.

It’s been built to provide a more effective and efficient service by co-operating with the air field.

“It’s a centre where we can provide training for the community and our people. And it also enables us to have a presence on an airfield which is a benefit to us enabling for a rapid response with aircraft to fires.”

The hub will officially open tomorrow – the general public are allowed to visit from Sunday.
