STATE GOV RELEASES PLAN TO EASE TRAFFIC WOES IN MAITLAND

The state government has released a long awaited solution to ease traffic woes in Maitland.

Roads and Maritime Services has released its favoured option to reduce congestion, a $45 million dollar upgrade to build two overpasses at the Church Street roundabout on the New England Highway.

Member for Maitland, Robyn Parker made the announcement today and said, “This option would remove a large amount of traffic from the existing roundabout and separate eastbound highway traffic from motorists turning right into Church Street.”

The money will come from the Hunter Infrastructure Fund.

The community is being asked to offer feedback on the plan, but the State Opposition has slammed the move, saying it is a waste of money given traffic will reduce by up 40 per cent when the Hunter Expressway is completed at the end of 2013.
