TWEED COUNCIL SUGGESTS MAJOR AMALGAMATION

A Northern New South Wales ‘mega-council’ stretching from Tweed to Grafton, is one idea set to be debated as part of a State local government review.

It’s one of five options submitted by Tweed councillors to the independent review panel, which is meeting in Ballina next week.

The proposal would see seven councils, including Byron and Lismore, unite to become the ‘Greater Northern Rivers Council’.

Other options include moving existing boundaries to encompass larger suburbs around the borders of the Tweed.
