Ballina Councillor, Jeff Johnson has criticised plans by council to invest over $3 million into re-developing the Wigmore Arcade.
The proposal – which includes a car park development – is a ploy to attract more visitors into the town’s CBD.
“I have a motion at next council meeting that we seek expressions of interest from local artists to come and set up short term leases and providing exhibitions and workshops as a way to being people back into the CBD ”
Shop owners will meet tonight to discuss the project and its potential impact on business.
“If council decides to redevelop this arcade all the tenants will be kicked out and forced to look for other residencies.”
