Fig trees could soon make a return to Newcastle’s Laman Street.
Next week, council will vote on whether to plant 12 figs along the street, replacing the 14 controversially cut down in January due to safety concerns.
A pedestrian area and one-way traffic also form part of the recommended design.
Council wants to install underground vaults to maximise the trees’ lifespan.
