COUNCIL APPROVES PLANS FOR LAKE MACQUARIE SUBURB

Council has approved a plan to put Lake Macquarie on the map.

Councillors last night voted to lodge an application with the Geographic Names Board for a suburb called Lake Macquarie in the Speers Point area.

The issue has been debated by council over the past six years and a recent survey found 67% of respondents supported the move.

  1. I say to leave the suburbs names alone. Lake Macquarie is! the lake. Everyone around the lake will more than likely utilise the Tourism aspect. Naming one suburb Lake Macquarie will take the emphasis away from our beautiful lake, Lake Macquarie…so Councillors please have another think and determine which is more precious. All the suburbs together classed as a City that edge the beautiful lake sounds more sensible to me. But then again why change anything. The names were issued from the person who had an effect on the community and further back they were named after the Awabakal language, as Boolaroo, place of many fly’s, I believe. Thanks for allowing me my say.
