SHEDDEN DENIES HE WAS SEEKING REVENGE WHEN HE SHOT MAYNARD

Chad Shedden has denied being out to seek revenge the night he shot Joshua Dillon Maynard.

Shedden is on trial for the murder of the 21 year old on Links Drive at Raymond Terrace in 2010.

During cross examination by the Crown prosecutor in Newcastle Supreme Court today, Shedden denied being out for revenge following the alleged bashing of an acquaintance earlier in the night.

The 34 year old also told the jury he did not intend to kill Mr Maynard and only fired the gun to scare him because he felt threatened by the sword he claims Mr Maynard was holding.

The incident was the culmination of several encounters between two groups of men on the night of June 29.

Shedden has pleaded to guilty to manslaughter but not guilty to murder.
