HUNDREDS OF JOBS LOST IF KURRI’S HYRDO ALUMINIUM SMELTER CLOSES

The carbon tax has claimed its first victim, with Norsk Hydro announcing it intends to close its Hunter aluminium smelter.

The move will put 350 people out of work, affect countless contractors, and have a devastating effect on communities around the plant.

The news sparked a furore in federal parliament, with the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader trading barbs, and a Hunter MP ejected.

  1. Your News Reader said it was the Carbon Tax that had caused the plants failure, but the News Reporter said it was the monthly $7 Million dollar loss due to the high Australian Dollar and low metals prices

Why did the News reader lie so blatantly

I think your viewers are entitled to the truth from their local News outlet or do you disagree and believe in reporting lies for some sort of political favour.

    Disgraceful

  2. I have worked at the smelter for 30 yrs since i was 15 and have seen both the good and bad times and there is no doubt the decision has been taken due to a lot of reasons, on top of the list is the high aussie dallar and the low metal price but the failure of the state government to be able to come up with a power deal that has also sealed the plants fate. All this despite the above expected savings made by the workforce over the past 18 mnths particularly since the curtailment of line 1 in january. The main task now is to ensure the employment of all those in the workforce who seek it as the decision wont be reversed lets get on with it..
