VIRTUAL BATTLESPACE TRAINING SOLDIERS

[nggallery id=11].

It may look like something you’d play while sitting on your coach, but this system is more than just a video game.

A Nelson Bay company has developed a military simulation system and is selling it to the world.

Vitual Battle Space 2 is a game designed to put soldiers on the frontline, virtually-speaking, for training in a safe, cost-effective environment.

From a simulated scene on the ground in Afghanistan, to a mission rehearsal with a Chinook helicopter closing in on a landing zone, VBS2 puts soldiers in the game.

The mission headquarters, Bohemia Interactive Simulations, is in the tourist mecca of Nelson Bay.

A decade ago, local man David Lagettie saw the potential of a Czech-made game to be used for military training – VBS was born and the current version is now used across the globe.

“Across the western military and around the world it’s seen as the standard now for desktop simulation. So it’s used by the US Marine Corps, the US Army, Canadian forces, the UK Ministry of Defence and recently it was taken up by the Netherlands as well.”

From Nelson Bay to the world…the reach of VBS2 keeps expanding, with an upgraded version to be released later this year.
