COUNCIL PUTS BOTTLE SHOP PLANS ON HOLD

Lake Macquarie Council has put on hold plans for a bottle shop at Mount Hutton after a passionate plea from parents over the weekend and a last minute submission made by NSW Police.

NBN News reported on Sunday night that Woolworths had plans for a Beer Wine and Spirits store less than 50 metres from the local primary school.

Parents rallied on the weekend for council to reject the proposal, as there is already two other liquor outlets 500 metres away.

Jane Oakley was one of those parents and said “Our kids will walk past this building twice a day for a year…I wonder what sort of messages we’re sending to our children.”

The council will take another look at the proposal on Monday 28 May.

The Greensr John Kaye said that the decision “was a great victory for the local residents and for common sense. It was also a win for every community around NSW battling yet another bottle shop and the appalling toll of domestic violence.”
