  1. Hi Gavin,
We just love your weather reports. We do a bit of traveling and you are second to none on Aussie TV in our book

Now, you mentioned this week that the sun is the lowest in the north and shortest day too. So why does it get colder in July and August…more snow etc?

Maybe you could explain this to your viewers?

Cheers and keep up the great work.
    Mike

  2. Dear Gavin,

    This is just a comment.

Thank you for your excellent weather reports and forecasts and for the explanations you give of unusual weather events–clearly the best on TV.
I have been interested in cause and effect ever since, at a much younger age, the captain of a New Zealand coastal vessel showed me how to read a weather map.
I am now 85 years of age (notice I didn’t say old, because I don’t feel it) and shifted from NZ to Goonellabah (eastern suburb of Lismore, Northern Rivers) nearly 15 years ago. I am fascinated with virga, never having experienced anything like it in NZ.
However, what prompted me to contact you today, is what happened this morning. Where I am in Goonellabah is quite hilly and our unit is quite close to the top of a ridge that would be about 150m above sea level. I looked outside at about 6:00 am and there was a thick fog, with visibility down to about 50m, and dead calm.
A little before 8:00am there was the sound of distant thnder, which moved to be overhead by round 8:30, still very calm, but accompanied by very heavy rain. Sorry, can’t tell you how much, as the rain gauge hadn’t been emptied since last night’s storm, but there was a total of 50mm for both events. As the storm passed overhead there were a few light gusts of wind, which have continued since. The rain has cleared and the would be about 4/10 overcast with light altocumulus cloud.
Never before have I witnessed fog (which we used to get a lot of in Christchurch) being associated with thunder! To me, it just doesn’t add up!

    Kind regards, Gordon.

  3. Hi Gavin , I missed your coverage on the cloud circles last week, could you explain what causes them, my wife said something about jet fuel.
    Regards. Jim Ferguson

  4. Hi Jim,

I believe the holes occurred when clouds collapsed under jet engine pressure.
    Hope that helps.

    Georgie.

  5. Hi Gavin,
We always tune in to you weather segment and you are the best in the business.
We are wondering why the maximum temperature in Murwillumbah shown on your chart is always up to 4 degrees lower than the actual temperature. This has been bugging me for sometime. Like you I am I guess somewhat of a perfectionist, bearing in mind weather forecasting is not an exact science but something is wrong here.
    Regards,
    John.

  6. Hey Gavin, I sent thru a weather shot a couple of Sundays ago and I have heard you had it on last nights weather shot, I missed it, I was wondering if you had a video of your forecast from 28th may 2014, so I could show my kids, I wanted to also know why there was a rainbow in the sky in the middle of blue sky, I watch the new most nights just missed it last night. any help would be appreciated. thanks

  7. Hi Gav.
Like your weather report and photos.
What is the email address to send photos.
I live at Ocean Shores and we get hardly any photos or reports of weather here even though we top the state occasionally on rainfall.
    Thanks
    Jim
