SURFING LEGEND MICHAEL PETERSON DIES

One of Australia’s greatest surfers, Michael Peterson, has died at age 59 from a heart attack.

The Surfing Life website reported his death this morning and his family later confirmed the statements on Facebook.

Peterson dominated the sport in the 1970s, winning the Bells Beach Easter surfing classic three times in a row.

He will also be remembered for his iconic role in the surfing movie, Morning of the Earth, in 1971.

Peterson battled with schizophrenia and heroin addiction later in life.

His life was chronicled in the biography ‘MP’ written by Sean Doherty and inspired Malcolm Knox’s novel The Life.
