HEARNES LAKE ‘UNSUITABLE’ FOR 200-LOTS

With supreme court action pending over a 200-lot development near Woolgoolga, a Coffs Harbour City councillor is urging the developer to consider other sites.

Councillor Mark Graham says filling in swamps at Hearnes Lake isn’t appropriate when there is an abundance of development opportunities elsewhere.

“There are large areas of land available at Boambee, at Woolgoolga, near Coffs Harbour South Coffs in Stadium drive which has nice elevated areas which aren’t prone to flooding and sea level rise, they don’t have any bushland upon them, they’ve very suitable areas for residential growth.”

The council is appealing the approval given by the former state government for the project, arguing 35 lots should be the maximum on the site.

The case is expected to be heard in the next six months.
