50 YEARS OF NBN: THE SONG

Paul Lobb got out his ukulele and strummed up a storm with this little song that encompasses fifty years of NBN television.

Thanks to Laurence Schuberth for the backing track, Steve Tippett for recording it and Marty Adnum for the inspiration.

  1. Hey NBN and Paul,

Loved the song and old footage. Cheers to you all. I was almost 7 when you guys went to air and have definitely grown up with NBN. Have lived away for a few years in my 20’s but returned and now raising my family. Love NBN and Newcastle. All the best. regards Sharon Morgan, Glen Oak NSW (near Seaham).

ABOUT 40 YEARS AGO THERE WAS A STORY ABOUT ME ON “THE ROVING EYE” IT WAS AT NEWCASTLE OCEAN BATHS I WAS LEARNING TO SWIM WHEN I WAS ON CRUTCHES FOR FOUR & A HALF YEARS WITH PERTHASE DISEASE, I HAVE HAD 2 HIP REPLACEMENTS IN THE LAST FEW YEARS BECAUSE OF THE PERTHASE DISEASE, IT WOULD BE GREAT TO GET A COPY OF THAT IF YOU COULD FIND IT IN YOUR ARCHIVES, THANKS NBN, ALWAYS WATCH YOUR NEWS.

  3. It was great, Paul. Really enjoyed it. Back in the ’60’s there was a show called Newcastle Saturday Date, filmed at NBN and hosted by Phil Hunter who was a DJ at 2KO. I was there a few times, and still have contact with Phil. Also, my son was on Romper Room filmed on July 14, 1979. There was 2 shows filmed that day. Is there any chance of getting a copy of them, or have I left that run too late. NBN has been a big part of my TV life. Great stuff.

  4. Terrific song Paul, Very clever and well sung. I watch the NBN news every night when I’m at home. Keep up the good work.

  5. What happened to Pauline and buttons?
They were great, but received little comment from NBN!!!

  6. LOL… If you live at Seaham and say you love Newcastle – well, that’s why. Try living somewhere like Windale or Raymond Terrace in a government housing area like I sadly do – and you’ll never say you love Newcastle again.
