CHARLESTOWN TRAFFIC PLAN AXED

Lake Macquarie Council has scrapped a controversial plan to reduce Charlestown’s main road from six to four lanes during peak hour.

Councillors passed the idea of introducing bike and bus lanes in 2010, as part of a management plan for the suburb.

It would have also seen the speed limit dropped to 40 kilometres an hour.

But the state government body formerly known as the RTA, says it won’t support the plan.
