ROAD CLOSED WHILE TESTING IS UNDERTAKEN

A section of Taree’s Kolodong Road is expected to remain closed for the rest of the week, after an old water main pipe, which may contain asbestos material, was crushed during roadworks.

Greater Taree City Council says testing of the material taken from the decommissioned pipe is expected take about a week.

In the meantime, it has taken action to close the stretch between Neales Road and the sealed section of Kolodong Road.

The council has been advised that there is no health or safety risk to the public if the containment of the material remains in place.
