UNIONS WANTS ANSWERS OVER MINE CLOSURE

A Hunter Valley coal mine remains closed due to safety concerns.
200 workers have been temporarily stood down from the Integra Longwall operation near Singleton, after unsafe methane levels were detected.
CFMEU President Peter Jordan says he wants answers from the mine’s owner.
“Why haven’t they fixed it? That’s the question that’s got to be asked. They’re putting that mine at risk and they’re putting those workers at risk. The union is wanting answers to that”

The Integra mine Operations General Manager Andrew Betts says safety is paramount.

Authorities have closed the mine to all but inspections and pumping operations.
