A blow for surfing fans in the Hunter today, with former world champion Joel Parkinson withdrawing from the main event at Surfest due to unforseen family circumstances.
The 2013 Mark Richards Trophy winner has apologised to tournament officials.
Parkinson says he’s still available to represent his club side at the Australian Boardriders Battle in Newcastle on February 18.
