COUNTRY KIDS BUSED OUT AS FLOOD WATERS RISE

Buses have begun picking up school students in the Dungog area as a precuation to rising river levels in the area.
Many local bridges are expected to go under with predicted flood peaks this afternoon.

A major flood warning is in place for the Paterson and Williams Rivers.

Some remote Upper Hunter communities are also isolated with damaged bridges and flooded crossings.

SES and Volunteer Rescue crews have been clearing fallen trees around Maitland and Cessnock with several near misses to residents as trees came down on houses and cars overnight.

A helicopter will be used this afternoon to airlift people stranded in remote areas around Wollombi.

Heavy rain is expected in the Newcastle area tonight.
