Businesses on the far north coast are being urged to be on the lookout for mint condition five dollar notes, which police suspect were recently stolen from a collection.
They are pale purple in colour with green serial numbers in sequential order, beginning with the letters AA.
Police say a man aged in his 40s used the notes, to pay for goods at a number of Ballina businesses last week.
“We suspect that due to the nature of them being exchanged for their face value we suspect they have been unlawfully obtained and are being used to obviously circulate in the community,” said Richmond Command Crime Manager, Greg Moore
Anyone who finds the notes or has information that might help police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
