NEWCASTLE PREPARE TO DEFEND RUGBY’S CALDWELL CUP

Newcastle will begin its defence of the Country Rugby crown when it travels to Armidale tomorrow to face North West.
Merewether Carlton has four players in the rep squad, including 22 year old Sam Clifton, who’s set to make his Caldwell Cup debut.
“Did a little bit with Colts but first time in the senior squad, thoroughly looking forward to it, just happy to be a part of the team.”
The Greens today launched their 2011 season, unveiling new signings including former Knights premiership winner Sean Rudder.
For Merewether, the chance to erase the memory of last season’s run in the finals can’t come quick enough.
“Yeah it was shattering to be honest but there’s not a lot we can do now just look forward to this year and hopefully don’t make the same mistake twice.”
