URUNGA PACIFIC HIGHWAY WORKS BEGIN

Work has started on a $10-million upgrade of the Pacific Highway between Urunga and Nambucca Heads.

The safety measures follow a spate of fatal accidents on the deadly stretch of highway during the past two years.

The works include widening of the road and the creation of a turning lane at the intersection of Martels Road.

The speed limit has also been reduced and wire rope barriers will be installed in the centre of the road.

State Roads Minister, David Borger, says the upgrade was a response to a campaign by local doctors calling for urgent action.
