TEENS CHARGED OVER ASSAULTS

Locals have clashed with holidaymakers overnight at Byron Bay, in what police describe as an alcohol-fuelled attack.

Three Melbourne men were allegedly set upon when they answered a knock on the door of their Shirley Street holiday unit around 4.30 this morning, leaving them with suspected broken jaws and facial lacerations.

A 19-year-old Ballina man and an 18-year-old from Alstonville have both been charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

They’ll appear in court next month.

“It’s a clear warning to both locals and tourists that if they come to Byron Bay or in fact any of our towns that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”
