FRUIT BATS TO MOVE ON
Fruit bats which periodically have invaded Maclean High School will be easier to move on thanks to new legislation passed by the federal parliament yesterday.
Tens of thousands of bats have used trees at the school for a roosting area, causing students to stage protests over noise and odour problems.
A Private Members Bill introduced by Cowper MP, Luke Hartsuyker, was passed by the Lower House.
In future it won’t require federal government approval if the state government wants to scare-off the bats.
The new legislation has yet to pass through the Senate.
